Social Security Number report

This is an introductory guide and overview for the Social Security Number (SSN) report.

Introduction

The SSN report validates an end user's US Social Security number, name and date of birth combination by matching it to official records held by the Social Security Administration.

Onfido matches provided applicant data directly against the United States Social Security Administration's (SSA) electronic Consent Based Social Security Number Verification (eCBSV) Service database. This allows fast, low friction and accurate validation of Social Security Numbers, providing enhanced protection against fraud and financial crime.

Note: SSN reports are only available in the US region.

Result logic

The SSN report can return a result of clear or consider:

The overall report result will be clear if all the applicant's name, date of birth and SSN match and the applicant is not found on the register of deaths.
